Building Bridges Through Sports and Services

The journey of the Hobart SL Lions Sports Club began with a common dream among Sri Lankan immigrants,

the dream of creating a space where they could not only relish their love for sports but also give back to the community they now call home.

United by a desire to embrace the Australian way of life while preserving the rich Sri Lankan heritage, our founders came together to establish a club that would be a beacon of cultural pride and community engagement.

The Hobart Sri Lankan New Year Festival 2026 is a vibrant cultural celebration bringing the Sri Lankan community and the wider Tasmanian community together to welcome the traditional Sinhala and Tamil New Year. Organized by the Hobart SL Lions, the event will take place on 28th March 2026 at Soldiers Memorial Oval, Queens Domain, Hobart. This family-friendly festival will feature traditional New Year games, cultural performances, authentic Sri Lankan food stalls, music, and community activities that reflect the rich heritage and joyful spirit of Sri Lankan culture. It is a wonderful opportunity for families, friends, and the broader community to come together, experience unique traditions, and celebrate unity, culture, and community in the heart of Hobart. 🎉
